About Converse Jeans & Combats
Converse is one of the world's leading sneaker brands, producing the most legendary and iconic shoe of all time - the Chuck Taylor All Star. The brand will celebrate its century anniversary in 2008 - celebrating one hundred years in sport and rock and roll - and one hundred years of disrupting the status quo.
The success story began in the US in 1908 when Marquis M. Converse opened the Converse Rubber Shoe Company. In 1917, the Converse All Star debuts as the world's first performance basketball shoe - and a year later all American high school basketball player, Charles H "Chuck" Taylor pulls on his All Stars for the first time. After going pro, Chuck joins Converse and becomes one of America's first player endorsers. Another Converse classic was born in 1935 when world famous badminton champion and tennis pro, Jack Purcell designed an innovative and durable performance court shoe - the Jack Purcell shoes become a "must-have" staple among young, aspiring Hollywood actors in the 1930s and 1940s, and West Coast "beach boys" throughout the 1950s.
