K-Way: An Umbrella in a Jacket

It rains a lot in Europe, yet many Europeans often do not carry umbrellas, choosing to brave the elements without the bulky accessory. Watching this tendency in 1965, Leon-Claude Duhamel concluded that people needed a portable jacket to keep their clothes from getting soaked. A year later, he had sold a quarter-million of his K-Way jackets. Lightweight, comfortable and completely waterproof, the handy jackets could be folded into a small hip bag once indoors, letting a person’s much more snazzy outfit shine for the party, dry as a bone. Years later the brand seeped into the ski industry as it sponsored and outfitted several teams.
