2016’s Summer Essentials

When it comes to summer fashion, comfort is as vital as style. Whether you’re sunning yourself on the beaches of Ibiza, or going hard at Glastonbury, there’s nothing worse than dressing inappropriately and ending up a sweaty, sartorially-impaired mess.

That’s where we come in – providing you with all the know-how you’ll need to make the right wardrobe decisions. But you don’t need to break the bank to look the part; below are our five items you’ll need to see you through the summer.

Chino Shorts – Based on the cut-offs that were once worn by the British army, chino shorts have morphed into the classic, ubiquitous apparel that we see today. Cool and completely versatile, they can be found everywhere – from affordable high-street brands, like Topman and H&M, to luxury lines, like Ralph Lauren. Plus, they’re available in a range of colours, making them easy to pair with any outfit. Just couple them with a well-fitting polo and a pair of Converse and you’re good to go.
Price range – £20-60

Polo Shirts

Polo Shirts – On the note of polo shirts, this classic is yet to go out of fashion. The perfect blend of comfort and style, they can be worn on almost any occasion – from a BBQ with the lads, to meeting your new girlfriend’s parents. And with high-end brands like Lyle & Scott, John Smedley and Gant constantly finding new ways to refresh the look, you can rest easy knowing that they’re not going away any time soon.
Price Range – £40-80

Ripped jean shorts – A remnant of the punk-era, ripped jean shorts add a worn out look to your wardrobe. We’d advise that you buy two pairs – one in black (goes with everything) – and a bleached blue pair for when you’re after a lighter outfit.
Price Range – £25-40

Linen Shirts – Another sartorial staple is the linen shirt. Light, airy and stylish, it’s a man’s best friend during the muggy summer months – keeping you cool in the July sun. Whether you’re a plaid kind of guy, or prefer a more monochromatic look, they’re the ideal addition to any wardrobe.
Price Range – £30-40

Espadrilles – Historically worn throughout Spain since the 14th century, these shoes suffered a trans-Atlantic revival back in the 1980’s. Since then, they’ve become a male must-have for keeping your feet cool and comfortable when the heat rolls around. One particular brand renowned for their quality is Havaianas – offering affordable footwear in a range of colours.
Price Range – £20-35

Of course, your wardrobe doesn’t stop there. But by ensuring you keep these fundamentals in your closet at all times, you’ll never be without something to wear – however you choose to spend your summer.
