Check out the Stripes
When it comes to men’s fashion there are some important rules to follow, such as never wear a brown belt with black shoes, how to correctly tie a tie and so on. There are, however, some rules you can break. It is an unwritten rule of fashion that two clashing patterns (or even the same pattern) shouldn’t be worn together, but with fashion boundaries being broken daily we take a look at how you can wear stripes on stripes or stripes and checks etc., together without looking like a walking migraine.
Mix it Up
Mixing patterns can be risky so before you try it there are a few things to consider. Firstly, you can wear two items with the same pattern but the key to this is to make sure that each pattern has a variation in the width or size of the pattern. If, for instance, you’re combining a polka dot shirt with a polka dot tie, make sure that there are differences in the size and the space of the dot. It’s still the same pattern and it will avoid people from going cross eyed. Mixing the same pattern can be a fun and creative way to breathe life into an ordinarily traditional look.

Stripes & Checks
The idea of mixing stripes and checks is often quickly dismissed as it can be a path too tricky to navigate. But, by following these two rules carefully you can easily manoeuvre your way through to the end. When mixing different patterns, the first rule of thumb is to flip proportions, so if you have a bold check print opt for a subtler stripe to compliment it. Similarly, keeping things within the same colour schemes can help as well. Having a navy stripe matched with a navy check is going to be far more complimentary than a navy stripe and red check.

The final way to pattern match is to use colours that complement each other. Rather than use colours in the same family, choosing colours that complement each other is a perfect way to express yourself and highlight your patterns without being over the top. Great colour combinations to try this with would be pale pink and navy blue, baby blue and grey or white and brown.

Considering how popular prints are this season, it would be a shame to not experiment with some different patterns and colours, so long as you vary the size of the pattern, you’re golden. #standout
