Five Top Tips to Make you Look Taller
Making sure you gain the extra inches desired armed with nothing but the clothes on your back isn’t always easy (and sometimes may even seem like a tall order – see what we did there). There are some simple ways a man can dress to look taller, and the formula for dressing taller isn’t really that difficult to learn. It’s just a matter of sticking with a few rules of thumb when buying clothes.
1. Make it up with Accessories
The idea is to draw other peoples’ eyes to your upper body, creating the illusion of more height. Accessories are great to wear, whether it be hats, glasses, lapel pins, tie pins and pocket squares everybody loves making their outfit individual to their own style. Tons of accessories can create an eccentric look (which is dependent on the person) but we would suggest somewhere around three classic accessories should do the job.
2. Make it Fit
Trouser fit is important in creating length because they’re worn on your legs (which is obvious) but there are tricks to make your legs look longer which creates the illusion of height. Low-rise trousers should be avoided at all costs. When you tuck in your shirt to a pair of low-rise trousers or jeans, your torso looks longer. Your body is cut in half and your legs are shortened. Instead, stick to medium or high-rise pants.
3. Make a blazer your best friend
A fitted blazer or suit jacket will do a couple of things for you. First, it will help build up your shoulders, which adds height. Also, by keeping it buttoned, it will create a slim silhouette that will make your chest look bigger and your waist look smaller, which will create both a slimming and heightening effect. Make sure your top button is above your navel to make your torso and legs look longer, and go with a shorter cut on the jacket.
4. Make it the right shade
The eyes of onlookers should seamlessly travel up and down your outfit. To do this you have to stick with a low-contrast palette and avoid items that cut the torso in two. Managing accessories and patterns wisely will also help you along the way so no large and bright belts, stay away from horizontal patterns. There two approaches that should be taken with colour. One is to stay in the same colour family – staying in the same colour family streamlines the look and gives an elongating effect. The second is to stay in the light or dark colours – colours can be different but make sure that the contrasting colour is on top. It will draw the eyes up when being looked at.
5. Make the Cut
A lot of clothes providers cannot be relied upon to cater to everyone’s needs. But just because it doesn’t fit off the peg doesn’t mean you need to leave it on the rail. Befriending a local tailor is the best way to make your favourite purchases work for you. The reason for this is there are certain clothes lengths and proportions that work best for the shorter man.
On that late we leave you with these beauties which will have you looking taller and feeling great in no time.
