Man Up for Movember – Stop Men Dying Too Young

It’s that time of year again when brothers and sisters all over the world are about to unite to support the face of men’s health.

That’s right. Movember is back!

If you are unsure what this means, creep out from that rock you’ve been living under and listen up!

Back in 2003 two friends (Luke Slattery and Travis Garone) decided that the moustache had disappeared from fashion far too quickly and over a cold beer in Melbourne they created the brainchild that is Movember. The two friends managed to gather a team of 30 guys all willing to grow a Mo in order to inspire its revival. They were astounded by the attention and conversation starters that a simple moustache brought with it and by 2004 they had registered the Movember Foundation and raised £21,184 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). The Movember Foundation quickly gained a strong following and the PCFA paired up with them to become the charities official partner.

The number of brothers sporting a tash for Movember has continued to grow since that special night in 2003. The Movember Foundation now boasts 5,232,625 Mo Bros and Sistas whilst also raising £443 million since 2003. The foundation is present in over 20 countries and has become a truly sensational Global movement. Over the last 13 years they have supported men’s health and drew attention to topics such as testicular and prostate cancer as well as male mental health which was largely swept under the carpet beforehand.

With your continued support the charity forecasts that they will have assisted in reducing the number of men dying from testicular cancer by 50% a figure that we can only hope that they achieve. There are a number of ways that you can support this outstanding charity, from growing a tash to hosting an event. If you are looking for any ways in which you can or for any more information regarding these topics please visit www.movember.com.

We at Stand-Out proudly support Movember and hope to see more brothers cross the line.
