Menswear Summer Essentials for 2017

Dressing well in the blistering summer months can feel intimidating and it often seems impossible. As the heat of summer steals away our layers it leaves you wondering “how can I dress well this summer?” First and foremost you have to dress to stay comfortable, but how can you build multiple outfits if the only items you can wear are shirts, shorts, and shoes? We’re going to tell you how…

1. Feeling Boaty
Summer style has only two goals: Be comfortable, look good. When the heat and humidity come in like a tidal wave, you have to start thinking strategically about not only what you’ll choose to wear but what you’re going to wear on your feet. Now, you can’t always opt for sandals just because it’s summer. When your friends call on a night out and smart shorts are your go-to bottoms, boat shoes are the perfect compliment. They are light, smart and comfortable, keeping you on your feet all night long. Sperry have some blinders to choose from. Check out our range below:

2. Perfect Polo
The reality is the polo shirt can be one of the sharpest and most versatile shirts in your wardrobe if you focus on getting the fit right. A common mistake young guys make is trying to size down to achieve proper proportions which can lead a shirt to look too small. Look for a different brand, fit, or consider cheap alterations by a tailor. Try to avoid tucking in a polo unless you are in a business/casual environment, in which case opt for a tucked in button up instead. In our opinion nobody does polos better than J Lindeberg and we have some amazing ones to choose from:

3. Chino Shorts
While you may hear chinos and think dress pants, worn with a properly fitted silhouette, they can be worn casually or dressed up. Paired with a polo, shirt, or tee, the look remains a classic, while offering temperature control on cooler days or in the evenings. They’re also perfect for lunch or dinner while at the beach or to a casual bar. Original Penguin have some extra smart looking shorts this season, snap some of them up now:

4. Short Sleeve Shirt
As with everything with your personal style, the focus to making this look sharp is by honing in on the fit. The primary concern is the looseness of the shoulders and the bagginess of the body. You want a sleeve that hugs the upper arm – but is not tight – landing about three fourths of the way down. The body should glide down the side of your torso, offering enough room for movement and comfort but without any excess for billowing. For the perfect fit, check out our Tommy Hilfiger range:

5. Weekend Bag
Every man needs a great weekend bag so he can swing home on a Friday, grab some gear and his partner, and hit the road. Your luggage doesn’t need to be ugly and the best weekend bags balance cargo space with size. Check out some of our favourites from Hype:
