Summer wedding season is firmly upon us and everything is almost in place for the big day, but the only thing that you are still trying to get perfectly right is your outfit.
Weddings are the highlight of a lot of summers and for years to come the memories will be retold from this special day. One memory you want to avoid making though is that you got the dress code completely wrong.
We at Stand-Out have pieced together a perfect summer wedding outfit and a few tips to help you ensure you get it all right for the big day.
– Always read the invitation. This handy piece of card contains all the information you could require about the wedding. Not only does it tell you where the venue is, but also it will inform you of any specific outfit requirements such as a black tie or any unusual outfit requests.
– Don’t upstage the bride and groom. Remember at the end of the day it is about them and not you. The last thing you want to do is take any attention away from the special couple by wearing exactly the same as the groom.
– Gifts. Once again the invitation tends to be key here. All the information will be on the invitation. So, if you are stuck whether to give money or buy a gift take a look and follow what the bride and groom has asked for.
– Plus 1’s. Only bring a date if the invitation states that you are able to. (i.e Your Name +1, or +guest) You do not want to arrive for the wedding with the lady whose joined you dressed in her finest only to tell her to wait in the car until later.
Even though you do not want to upstage the groom there is nothing wrong with making sure you are dressed to impress and looking your finest for this occasion. After all, there are going to be countless photos taken and the last thing you want is for all the guests to have photographic evidence of your horrific outfit choice. Let’s make sure we get this right.
The outfit we have chosen veers away from the traditional suit and tie combination and will be a perfect choice for a less formal wedding or a wedding taking place on the continent. However, with a few minor adjustments this could be made smarter for a more formal occasion.
No matter how many times you tuck it in or how you wear your trousers an ill-fitting shirt will always be an ill-fitting shirt. Make sure you buy a good fitting shirt (Tailored if possible) and it has to be crisp white.
Farah Vintage White Brewer Short Sleeved Shirt – £39.95
The short sleeve Farah Vintage shirt will look great tucked into chinos or left out and provides a smart casual look with the top button left undone.
Tommy Hilfiger Classic White Slim Fit Stretch Poplin Logo Shirt – £74.95
This long sleeve shirt from Tommy Hilfiger is a slim fit shirt and can give versatility to your outfit by keeping the sleeves long or rolled midway up your forearm.
We have opted for a pair of slim fit chinos to partner the crisp white shirt. Once again, buy these in a good tapered/slim fit so that they do not look to casual and fit the formal occasion.
Original Penguin Kelp P55 Slim Stretch Chinos – £32.95
Stay cool and stylish in kelp coloured chinos. Slightly darker than the cream colour you will see in a number of stores.
It is important to show of your shoes and make an impact. To help you do this you can roll your chinos up slightly to leave a gap between the bottom of the trousers and your shoes. The bare skin of your ankle provides a nice break and focuses people’s attention to your footwear.
H By Hudson Cognac Zair Calf Shoes – £53.95
The dark brown shoe will compliment the kelp shade of the chinos. Loafers are a great choice as they provide a sleek and stylish finish to your outfit and look great without socks.
Don’t forget to match your belt to your shoes and team the outfit with a smart pair of shades to finish it off. To make this outfit more formal you could opt for a muted textured tie and a navy tailored blazer. Hopefully these tips will help you nail the perfect outfit for the special day. #standout
