One of the latest brands to hit the Stand-Out website is the Great British clothing line, Aquascutum!
Set up by John Emary, Aquascutum began as a Mayfair tailors in 1851. Renowned for trench coats and signature checks, the brand’s name translates as ‘water shield’, from Latin. The company’s growing success led to a relocation of the flagship store to 100 Regent Street in 1895.
Their fantastic water-resistant and breathable Aquascutum raincoats were soon noticed by the elite of the era, with King Edward VII himself owning a coat in a Prince Of Wales Check. Such was his majesty’s approval that Aquascutum received a royal warrant in 1857 and a women’s range followed in 1900.
Another breakthrough in garment technology came to light created by Aquascutum. Aqua Five was named as the “greatest technical advance in rainwear”. The process involved impregnating each fibre of the fabric, resulting in a water repellent and crease resistant garment. Receiving the Queen’s award for export achievement in 1966, marked an increase in international attention and global success.
Finally, we reach the Aquascutum polo. Polos are a classic staple for every wardrobe and when you’ve got the Aquascutum navy polo it’s clear to see why. It is perfect to wear with khaki shorts (for those off-duty days) or to pair with black or denim jeans (for those nights on the town). If you fancy something a bit more classic? Well, the good news is that this polo is also available in white.
Today, the brand remains a true British classic – remaining true to the practicality and stylishness of its original designs with its signature Aquascutum Club Check.
